Are veneers harmful?
Before a patient decides to have veneers, he often asks himself whether veneers are harmful. This question is quite justified, because the treatment changes the tooth structure and the cost must also be considered. Therefore, each patient should weigh the pros and cons and read through testimonials. What is clear from the outset, however, is that veneers are not harmful. Nevertheless, there is some information worth knowing about them and things that need to be considered. These aspects are addressed in the following article.

Changes in the teeth
In order to be able to insert veneers, in most cases the teeth have to be ground down to get the veneers. Only enough is removed so that the veneers end up looking like natural teeth, fitting onto the teeth and not artificially enlarging them. This would not work if the sanding was omitted. Only in rare cases is this possible. However, only if there is a lot of space between the teeth. Whether and how much of the teeth need to be ground down should be clarified in the initial consultation with the dentist treating the patient.
After grinding, the veneers are then bonded to the teeth. These adhesives are very strong, so that the veneers normally cannot fall off in between. However, the adhesive can also be loosened, allowing the veneers to be detached if necessary.
Effects of treatment
Removing the veneers is necessary, for example, when they need to be renewed. Ceramic veneers last a very long time, but not forever. Thus, in many cases they need to be renewed after about 20 years, but sometimes later.
It is clear, however, that once a patient has opted for veneers, he or she must wear them for the rest of his or her life. This is due to the ground teeth, which without a veneer, would be broken. Thus, the biggest impact of treatment with veneers is that you have to make a decision for your whole life that cannot be reversed. However, if the teeth are previously very crooked, there are gaps between the teeth or they are discolored due to smoking, for example, the decision is very easy in most cases.
Otherwise, there are no major effects for the teeth. During the treatment, no pain is expected due to anesthesia, and the insertion of the veneers does not hurt either. You do notice a change and in the beginning the teeth can be a little sensitive to cold and heat, but this condition subsides very quickly.
Why veneers are not harmful
Thus, there are no long-term consequences that would not be clear beforehand and would make the veneers harmful. However, this can happen if you get to a dubious dentist who does not attach great importance to the quality of the product. Because both the veneers and the adhesive should meet current standards, and you definitely shouldn’t cut corners on costs.
At Inno Esthetics, we pay very close attention to quality. We use only ceramic veneers, which we have manufactured in a laboratory in Dortmund. Thus, we ensure high quality and long durability. The adhesives that we apply in different adhesive layers are also flawless and not harmful. All residues are also neatly removed so that no treatment residue remains in the patient’s mouth.
