Veneers color

Many people have veneers placed because they are unhappy with the color of their teeth. Thereby the color can have different reasons, because the teeth of all people are different. How to choose the best possible veneers color for everyone and what other methods are available for whiter teeth is clarified in the following article.

General information about the color of teeth

Teeth are mainly composed of enamel and dentin. The enamel is on the outside and white. Dentin, on the other hand, is located inside the teeth and has a yellowish color. Depending on how thick the enamel layer is, the dentin shines through. This is different for everyone, so we all have naturally different tooth colors.

Slightly yellower teeth therefore do not necessarily have anything to do with poor dental hygiene. In addition, it can be stated that a tooth is not automatically healthier just because it is whiter than others.

Choosing the right veneers color

So the teeth of each person have different colors. For this reason, choosing the right veneers color is also very important. In principle, every patient has a free choice. This involves working with color scales that offer a wide range of tones. Anything from very white, to ivory, to slightly yellowish veneers can be selected.

The dentist gives very individual advice and makes his recommendations. In this way, the color of the veneers can be matched to the patient’s natural tooth color in the best possible way. Especially if not all teeth are equipped with veneers, the color should be very similar.

Whitening of teeth by bleaching

If the teeth are healthy and straight, but whitening is desired, bleaching can also be a way. In most cases, this is a purely aesthetic treatment of the teeth, in which bleaching agents are used. These are applied either at home by the patient or in the dentist’s office. Often, light irradiation is also used, which further intensifies the result.

“For the most beautiful result, not all teeth always have to be fitted with veneers. Often the incisors or the upper row of teeth are enough.” – Muhammed Ferit Kiziler, dentist, founder of Inno-Esthetics & specialist for veneers

Bleaching in combination with veneers

A very common variant is to combine bleaching with veneers. For example, only the upper incisors are fitted with veneers and the rest of the teeth are whitened. This creates a brighter and more beautiful color of the tooth row overall.

Those who choose this method save costs, because veneers are more expensive than bleaching. However, it does not always lead to the best end result, for example, if the other teeth have a significantly different color, there are gaps between the teeth or bleaching is not an option for the patient. Individual consultation with a specialist should also be sought regarding the combination of veneers and bleaching.

Teeth brightness

Whether you end up choosing veneers or bleaching, you want to beautify the color of your teeth. The main focus is on whitening, as white teeth are an ideal of beauty. However, white is not the same as white, because hardly anyone has really white teeth by nature.

A natural tooth color is often a mixture of white and light yellow tones. Light shades of gray or ivory can also occur. So there is no one perfect color for teeth and therefore no one right veneers color. The most important thing in the end is that it looks natural.

The color of our teeth is divided into 16 different shades using the Vita color scale. The gradations go from A1 to D4.

To better describe the color of veneers or teeth, there is a color scale that goes from A1 to D4. Here, A1 is the whitest and lightest color. D4 represents the end and describes a rather grayish color, which occurs especially in older or heavy smokers. On average, people with healthy teeth have A3 color, which is not only white, but very slightly yellowish. This also shows that the brightest and clearest white is not automatically the right veneer color.

Veneers color retrofit

The decision as to which color the veneers will have in the end should be carefully considered in any case. After all, once the veneers have been fabricated and placed, the color cannot be adjusted. However, any experienced dentist who places veneers will give the best possible advice, so you don’t have to worry about that.

Veneers color changes

Classic veneers are made of ceramic. This has the great advantage that the material does not change or discolor over time. Of course, marginal differences can be seen after, say, 10 years, but only if a before-and-after comparison is made with two images. The veneers color is therefore durable and remains with the patient for a long time.
